Sunday lunch accompanied by a cocktail of music has become a regular feature within the festival. In previous years, the musical offering has comprised a group of singers. This time however, the splendid and renowned ensemble, Rose Consort of Viols is ringing the changes.
The event can be summed up as a two−course concert of music from the twin golden ages of the viol consort: before lunch is the varied repertory of the Elizabethan chamber, with pavans, galliards, delights by Taverner, Tallis and Byrd together with some Italian delicacies. Lunch will be digested with the later riches of music by Tomkins, Jenkins, Locke and Purcell, whose fantazias bring the great English tradition of viol consorts to its conclusion at the time of Charles II.

As far as lunch is concerned, you will not be expected to throw a drumstick across the Town Hall in the style of the Elizabethans. There will be a scrumptious main course followed by a pudding that will satisfy even the heartiest of appetites.

Booking essential: Ticket includes a two−course lunch. Wine available.
